ISIOLO COUNTY TO SPEND BILLIONS ON HEALTH

The ministry of health in Isiolo County has unveiled a health strategic and investment plan that will cost the county billions to implement in the next five years.
According to Chief Officer for health services department ,the money will come from tax revenue, health sector service fund, national government, donor funding and the community.
Among the areas set for improvement and restructuring include building of new health centres and upgrading existing ones, equipping hospitals with modern technology theatre equipment and ICT. Improving maternal care services in the county is also in the pipeline.
Isiolo deputy governor Abdi Kishoto said that the health sector would receive 20 per cent of the total budget allocation of Isiolo County.
The Deputy Governor who was the chief guest at the event praised the role of devolution in uplifting the health sector in the country saying a lot will be achieved through mainstreaming county government roles in the sector.
He said he was opposed to the national assembly’s move to attempt to strip counties the mandate of being responsible for district referral hospitals and wished that the motion fails.
He also said that Isiolo County is not fully reaping the benefits of the free maternity services offered by the County government which the jubilee government initiated because of lack of maternity wings in health facilities and also the fact that most mothers are still delivering from home leading to high maternal deaths rates.
The area leaders led by Al-farah Islamic foundation Isiolo branch manager Ahmed Sett said they would fully support the health strategic programme which they hoped would improve the health sector.
They called for construction of a middle level health based college in the county to train Isiolo youths in order to provide the County with health workers from the region.
Isiolo county secretary supported the move declaring that Isiolo district referral hospital grounds will be convenient for such a facility to be built due to readily available resources.
Isiolo County Commissioner Mr.Okoth  said that inaccessibility of health centres is a huge challenge to health service delivery for residents adding that implementation of the strategic plan will resolve the problem half way.
Mr.Okoth  urged health practitioners in the county to improve service delivery

alleging that the maternal death rate in the county was alarming and sometimes attributed to the fact that most mothers avoid visiting health centers due to abusive language the midwives used to the expectant mothers.
